What is Low Cost Auto Insurance Program About?
This program was started in 1999 and by December 10, 2007 every county in California was passed to offer Low Cost Car Insurance ~ LCA.
Coverage:
Liability Coverage for personal autos only. The limits are $15/30/5 = the mandatory limits in California. DMV will accept this type of Insurance.
(The Liability limits are $10,000 bodily injury or death per person. $20,000 Bodily Injury for each accident and $3,000 property damage for each accident.
Optional Medical Payments and Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury coverages are also available.)
THIS INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER DAMAGE TO YOU THE APPLICANT’S CAR! No Comp and Collision.
Are for Eligible for LCA?
You must meet these requirements to be accepted into the LCA program.
1. Must be a California resident.
2. Household has a gross annual income that is 250% or less of Federal poverty level. See below.
3. Automobile you drive has a value currently of $20,000 or less.
4. Applicant is at least 19 years old and has had a license for at least 3 years.
5. Applicant does not have felony or misdemeanor convictions on their driving license.
6. In the past 3 years the applicant has not had an at fault accident.
7. Applicant has not had more than one or both of the following: Property damage only accident in which they were principally at fault.
A point for a moving violation.
8. Applicant is not currently a college student dependent on another person for federal/state income tax purposes.
Not Eligible
Low Cost policy holder cannot purchase additional liability coverage for their covered car.
Does not cover vehicles that have a load capicity greater than 3/4 ton, or used for business.

If more than one family is living in the same house(unit), they constitute different families for eligibility purposes even though they reside in the same unit.
